Visit from the Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement

21st February 2018

We were delighted to welcome the Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement to WAVE Belfast. The Committee plays a pivotal role in informing debate on key areas of mutual interest regarding North/South co-operation. Members of the WAVE team have made a number of presentations to the Committee over the last five years and it was great that Committee members visited WAVE with a focus on three areas-
• The challenges re Legacy for those bereaved
• The challenges for those injured regarding the need for a special pension for those severely injured and the remit of the proposed Consultation process which will be undertaken by the Northern Ireland Office, which does not include any provision for those severely injured.
• The role of Trauma Education in response to need.

It was a very informative visit. We are grateful to all those who attended from the Committee-
Chair- Sean Crowe- TD
Brendan Smith- TD
Declan Breathnach- TD
Fergus O’Dowd-TD
Senator Frank Feighan
Senator Mark Daly
Senator Frances Black
Senator Nial O’Donnghaile-

Paul Gallagher and Peter Heathwood who reported on the challenges for those injured, Professor Jean Orr, Marianne Moutray and Marie Therese O’Hagan who focused on trauma education, and finally Alan McBride and Sandra Peake who focused on the work of WAVE. We look forward to building on this meeting with Committee members.
