WAVE Trauma Centre offer New Opportunities to Learn about Psychological Trauma and its Effects

On 24th November 2016, the WAVE Trauma Centre in Omagh between 12 noon - 2pm will host an Information Launch to celebrate the new collaboration between Open Learning, School of Education, Queen’s University, Belfast and Trauma Training within WAVE.
A range of trauma-focused short courses in the areas of addiction, traumatic loss, resiliency and psychological trauma, accredited at Level 1, 10 CATS points are now available through the Omagh WAVE Centre
Trauma Training Coordinator, Marie-Therese O’Hagan believes this is an exciting and positive next step for individuals interested in gaining knowledge and understanding about trauma and its effects.
“The Troubles in Northern Ireland has left a legacy of grief, trauma and pain and it is vitally important that individuals who support and care for those affected by violence have access to high quality training and education in this field of work".
This Information Launch will also provide the opportunity to hear about the BSc Hons in Psychological Trauma programme, also at Queen’s University, Belfast which will be open for application in spring next year and a new Postgraduate Programme in Trauma Studies with University College Cork.
Regional Manager, Gordon Buchanan is encouraging the local community, voluntary and statutory agencies to attend this information session.
“For many years there was a gap in trauma training but the WAVE Trauma Centre in Omagh has been very busy delivering psychological trauma courses to meet the needs of the local community".
Gordon also commented that this is an excellent opportunity to meet the Trauma Training Team in WAVE and learn more about these new opportunities to become more trauma aware practitioners.
