 Peace III Supported Programme: Back to the Future – Building the Peace Programme

WAVE has secured the generous support of the European Union’s PEACE III Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes body by the Community Relations Council / Pobal Consortium to deliver and develop a range of courses and activities to meet the needs of young people in Northern Ireland.
 
WAVE YOUTH 2010 SPRING PROGRAMME
 
BELFAST CENTRE:
·        MONDAY NIGHT GROUP (16 +) PROGRAMME
WAVE youth members meet from 7-9pm every Monday evening to further their skills in a wide variety of areas. If you are aged 16 and over and are interested in joining this group please let Tricia know. Over the next year there will be lots of opportunities for you to further your skills and to gain some qualifications.
 
1. Contributing in a Divided Society - OCN Level 2 (equivalent of a GCSE)
12th April – 10th May 2010 (dates to be confirmed)
There will be a residential for this course also and the dates will be confirmed at a later date.
 
 WAVE Youth Services
Youth Services within WAVE are delivered on a regional basis and are open to those aged between 5-25 years.
 
·        Young Women’s group
Every Tuesday 11am - 1pm
The young women’s group is now moving to a Tuesday morning from 11am- 1pm, including a late breakfast/early lunch. If you are a young woman aged 18 – 30 and are interested in joining this group please talk with Tricia. This year the group will be doing a lot more activities that will help increase their skills and help them gain qualifications. Please come along and bring any ideas about activities and training that you are interested in doing.
 
·        Young Men’s Group
Every Thursday 2- 4pm
This group has not met in the past few months, but will re-launch on Thursday the 21st of January from 2- 4pm. The group will start with a series of drumming workshops with Joe from The Gathering Drum and this course will run for five weeks. After that the group will decide on its next activity. If you are a young man aged between 18 -30 and are interested in joining this group please talk with Tricia, Sean Fields or Paddy Gallagher.
 
·        WAVE’s Mini Circus School 6-18yrs
Thursday 5.30 - 8.30pm
Every Thursday from 5.30pm – 8.30pm our younger members aged 6- 18yrs meet to do circus training, getting a chance to try everything from acrobatics, trapeze to juggling. If you are this age or you know someone who would be interested in coming along to this group please talk with Tricia, Jeanette or Laura. We will also be doing other activities, including drama with Laura and younger activities for the wee ones with Jeanette.
 
·        The WAG (WAVE Adventure Group)
The goal of the WAVE Adventure Group programme is to complement all the above programmes by helping the youth members (aged 16+) of WAVE to experience and have access to outdoor activities such as surfing, kayaking, climbing etc and to achieve a qualification in them. WAG will begin 2010 by joining forces with the Monday Night Group to do a climbing qualification. If you are interested in this activity or any others that may happen in the next year please talk with Tricia to put your name down. The activities will be chosen by the group and will be organised every few months. There will also be opportunities to go away on residential to try other activities.
 
·        One to One Befriending and Youth Counselling
If you know a young person aged up to 25 yrs who has suffered a trauma or could use some extra support at the moment, please get in touch with Tricia in the office to talk more about these services.
 
·        One to One Educational Tuition and Support
The WAVE youth department can also provide support and help arrange educational tuition and support services for young people. Again please talk this through with Tricia to see if you are eligible.
