WAVE as an organisation has developed a reputation as a key provider of training in the field of psychological trauma, especially trauma incurred after acts of violence.

Our Community-Based Courses

We offer accredited courses through Open Learning within the School of Education at Queen's University in the following areas of study:

  • Grief, Trauma and the Helping Relationship

  • Trauma and Addiction

  • Compassion Fatigue

  • Psychological Trauma

  • Transition from Conflict

  • Facing History and Ourselves

Our Academic-Based Courses

As well as our community accredited courses, we also offer a BSc (Hons) in Psychological Trauma  in collaboration with the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen’s University, Belfast. This is a four year part time programme. Recruitment will open shortly for a new intake due to commence in October 2019. 

An exciting new postgraduate study option will come online shortly that will commence in the autumn of 2019 with University College Cork. Further information will be posted shortly on course content, application process, fees and options for study.  

Our Professional Development Trauma Education Programmes

WAVE has for many years worked with the Schools of Social Work and Nursing and Midwifery at Queen's University, providing specialist input on trauma to all social work and nursing and midwifery students. A team of citizenship trainers who have experienced bereavement or injury deliver this programme. Further information is available through the Trauma Education Department at WAVE as listed below.

Workshop training programmes

WAVE has developed a number of short workshops which allow participants to gain Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in collaboration with Queens University Belfast.  Our Autumn schedule currently includes training on trauma and the family and compassion based approaches to trauma;
